We have had a busy month at Haverhill Public Schools. We hope you will join us for many end-of-the-year celebrations as the school year winds down. Check our website to locate your school and keep up with the most recent information on these events.

This past month, Dr. Randi Schuster from the MGH Center for Addiction and Recovery attended a School Committee meeting with a presentation on Youth Cannabis Misuse. This presentation has valuable information, and we hope you take the time to view the video and the slideshow.

HPS was invited to attend DESE’s Massachusetts Civics Project Showcase in Worcester on June 2, 2023. This past month students in 8th and 10th grades competed against each other to earn a position at the Massachusetts State Showcase. The High School presentation on “Water Filtration” and the middle school presentation on “Fixing our Bathrooms” are the winners, which go onto the state showcase.

Our Spring sports are winding down, and some teams will be moving on to compete at state tournaments; the HillieAthletics website has a current list of all the schedules. The Athletic Department has announced the Class of 2023 Athletics Hall of Fame inductees who will be honored on June 17, 2023. Seven Hillie Alumni will be inducted this year. For more information and tickets, visit our website.

Enjoy these last few weeks! Summer will be here soon.

Tilton Lower Elementary School

Tigermania!!!!

The weather was perfect this past month as Tilton Lower Elementary and Tilton Upper Elementary celebrated TIGERMANIA! Students and families had a great time with games, prizes, food, and raffles!

Ms. DeAvila’s Space Project – Grade 1

At Tilton Lower, they found a random box from a donation, and students decided a plan of action was needed. They made the plan, made teams, and created a Space Car (space team inside, car team outside). This project was all organic and tied to the Space unit in Ms. DeAvila’s Grade 1 class.

Golden Hill visit from NECC Knights Men’s Basketball

Students in 3rd and 4th Grade at Golden Hill had some special visitors. The Northern Essex Community College Men’s Basketball Team stopped by to cheer on students before they started MCAS Testing. The NECC Student-Athletes encouraged them to work hard in school; because what they learn will last a lifetime! Many of the student-athletes were from the local area, including Phillip Cunningham, a former Golden Hill Eagle, while some of the athletes were international, representing Turkey, France, and Brazil! Special thank you to Coach Stratton, his team, and Dr. Paul Beaudin for taking the time out of their busy schedules! The Golden Hill Students had a great time!

The Chris Herren Project

It was a packed house at Hunking School on May 2nd. Students, families, and community members filled the gymnasium to hear Chris Herren, a former NBA Celtics player, speak about his drug addiction journey. Chris gave a raw, powerful performance while discussing his path from a young student to a college player, professional player, and now recovered addict who has been sober for 14 years. We want to thank Chris Herren for sharing his journey with us, the HPS Wellness Department, and our Community Partners for collaborating to make this event possible.

Intern of the Year

Deyanarah Gutierrez was awarded the “Intern of the Year” for her Spring Internship at HC Media! She was awarded this Certificate of Appreciation for demonstrating outstanding commitment, dedication, and service to community television. Congratulations, Deyah!

HHS – Future Educator’s

Congratulations to these Hillies! They have decided to pursue a career in education and recognized their favorite teachers at HHS. We wish them well on their journey and look forward to the possibility of them returning to Haverhill Public Schools to start their career as educators.

2023 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees

Haverhill High School has announced the inductees for the 2023 Athletics Hall of Fame class. This spring, seven individuals will be inducted at the third HHS Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The Haverhill High School Hall of Fame was established in 2017 to honor former students, coaches, and administrators who excelled in athletics while attending HHS and for their accomplishments after high school. Its purpose is to perpetuate the memory of those persons who have brought distinction, honor, and excellence to Hillie athletics and familiarize the entire community and alumni with the high school’s rich athletic history.

The inductees will be honored at a special ceremony to be held on the evening of Saturday, June 17, at Bradford Country Club. For ticket information, visit our website.

Career Technology Education (CTE)

CTE Mock Job Fair

The HHS CTE Information Technology, Computer Science & Web Development, and Healthcare Occupations programs held mock interviews for their Junior classes. This was an excellent opportunity for students to practice their interviewing skills. Before the event, students built their resumes and learned about interview skills. We were fortunate to have representatives from the CTE Program Advisory Committees join us as the interviewers, making this a very realistic experience! A huge thank you to HPS Technology, HydraCor, Lawrence General Hospital, Northern Essex Community College, and Whittier Health Network representatives.
For more information about the HHS CTE Programs or to provide work-based learning opportunities to HHS Students, please contact Lisa Hunt at lhunt@haverhill-stage.materiell.net
